Sculpted Latex Body Cast II is part of Janine Grosche’s ongoing OMEN series and material research into natural liquid latex and the development of translucent, self-supporting latex skins.

Formed as a body cast, the work explores how a thin liquid material can be transformed through layering and reinforcement into a self-supporting sculptural form while retaining the softness, translucency and tactile qualities of a membrane or second skin.

The body remains present as a trace rather than a figure: an emptied form that exists between skin, vessel and soft sculpture.

Made to Order

The work pictured is the original reference piece from the OMEN series. Each new body cast is individually formed by hand upon order, following the original sculptural design. Subtle variations in translucency, surface and pigmentation are inherent to the process and make each piece individually distinct.

Variations of the design are available upon request.

Production time: approximately 3–5 weeks.

  • I create my latex skins from a high-grade natural liquid latex, produced in limited quantities and selected for its exceptional clarity and translucency.

    These qualities are fundamental to my ongoing material research, allowing me to transform liquid latex into thin, skin-like surfaces while retaining the distinctive tactile qualities of natural rubber.

    Each latex skin is developed and handcrafted in my studio through a process of layering, surface manipulation and, where required, reinforcement. The resulting materials range from soft, flexible membranes to structured, self-supporting skins, forming the basis for wearable works, vessels and sculptural objects.

  • 1. Cleaning

    • Gently hand-rinse or hand wipe with lukewarm water using a small amount of latex-safe cleaner or mild unscented soap.

    • Do not scrub or wring — lightly wipe the surface and pat dry with a soft towel.

    • Allow to further air dry flat, away from extensive direct sunlight or heat sources.

    2. Polishing

    • Once dry, apply a latex care or latex polish (silicone-based) to prevent sticking and restore shine.

    • Apply latex care instead of talcum powder in general as potential minerals in the powder could slowly affect the natural latex. The handmade skins are not the same as regular commercial latex sheets.

    • Never use oils, alcohol, or petroleum-based products — they damage latex.

    • *Note: Your ordered piece will arrive cleaned from talcum powder with latex care already applied

    3. Storage

    • Store garments hung on padded hangers or laid flat in a relative cool place.

    • Keep away from sunlight, water, heat, and metals (especially copper or brass) which cause discoloration.

    • Avoid contact with sharp objects or rough surfaces that could scratch the snake-skin texture.

    4. Notes on Handmade Texture

    • Each snakeskin latex piece is handmade, so slight variations in color and pattern are part of its unique character.

    • Treat your garment as wearable art — handle gently and with care.
