After Purchase Care Guide for Handmade Natural Liquid Latex Skins

Why this guide matters?

Your ordered piece is handmade and created from natural liquid latex. Unlike generic industrial sheet latex, my skins are created from layered liquid latex, which gives them unique texture, elasticity, and finish—but also requires specific care to ensure longevity.

Please read this guide carefully. Proper care will dramatically extend the life, appearance, and comfort of your latex piece.

Understanding Natural Liquid Latex

Natural liquid latex is derived from rubber tree sap and cured by hand in layers to achieve the texture skin. Because of this:

  • It is more organic than rolled industrial latex

  • It is more sensitive to oils, heat, UV light, and friction

  • Each piece may have slight natural variations, this is a feature, not a flaw

Treat your latex like a second skin.

After Purchase: First Handling

Your ordered latex piece arrives fully cleaned, free from talcum powder with added latex care for a polished look. This means you can wear it right away.

You can carefully hang it onto a plastic hanger for any creases to softly flatten.

Never iron natural latex or treat it with heat!

Cleaning & Washing (Essential)

Latex must be cleaned after every wear to rinse off the oils that would affect the latex.

  • Gently hand-rinse by dipping it into a lukewarm water filled basin using a small amount of latex-safe cleaner or mild unscented soap. (Avoid colored soaps, as they can stain).

  • Rinse thoroughly with clean lukewarm water.

  • Do not scrub or wring — lightly wipe the surface and pat dry with a soft towel.

  • Allow to further air dry flat, away from extensive direct sunlight or heat sources.

Important Notes:

You will notice the latex skins when wet will change back into a milky colour since they are made from natural liquid latex, but will become clear again when fully dry. Therefore don’t soak or leave to long. Just dip into water a few times.

*Never use a washingmachine

Storage Guidelines

Correct storage prevents sticking, cracking, and discoloration to extend the life of your investment.

Best Storage Practices

  • Store in a cool, dark place

  • Store garments hung on padded hangers or laid flat

  • Use a breathable garment bag

  • Always store polished with latex care

  • Keep pieces separated to avoid sticking and discoloration. Any light color latex will stain easily when stored together with a darker coloured latex

Avoid:

  • Keep away from sunlight, water, heat, and metals (especially copper or brass) which cause discoloration

  • Folding tightly or creasing

  • Hanging heavy garments for long periods

  • Avoid hanging garments with thin straps or on metal hangers

  • Avoid contact with sharp objects or rough surfaces that could scratch the skin texture.

Drying Properly

Improper drying is one of the fastest ways to damage latex.

Correct Drying Method

  • Lay flat on a clean, lint-free towel or hang on a padded plastic hanger (never a metal hanger)

  • Allow to air dry naturally

Never:

  • Use tumble dryers

  • Dry in direct sunlight

  • Leave latex damp or folded

Latex must be completely dry before storing.

What to Avoid at All Costs

Natural liquid latex is especially sensitive. Avoid the following:

  • Oils (body oils, lotions, sunscreen, massage oils)

  • Metal contact (copper, brass, bronze can stain permanently), such as coins, belts, and body piercings

  • Extreme Heat and UV exposure, UV rays can break down latex over time

  • Perfumes and deodorants applied directly to latex

  • Chlorine and saltwater

  • Sharp surfaces and rough friction, such as long nails and jewelry

  • Avoid over shining. Latex polish can seep into seams which can cause the seam to become unbound.

Any of the above can cause irreversible damage.

Care & Polish ( Essential )

Once dry, apply a latex care or latex polish (silicone-based) to prevent sticking and restore shine.

  • Apply latex care instead of talcum powder in general as potential minerals in the powder could slowly affect the natural latex. The handmade skins are not the same as regular industrial latex sheets.

  • Apply latex care sparingly with a soft cloth or use your hands to buff and distribute evenly. A few drops are sufficient. Your latex will keep its natural elasticity

  • Never use oils, alcohol, or petroleum-based products — they damage latex.

Repairs & Longevity

Minor tears or seam stress can often be repaired with liquid latex if caught early.

If damage occurs:

  • Stop wearing immediately

With proper care, your latex skin can last for many years.
